Located in Norfolk County, Braintree is a residential community located 10 miles south of Boston. Braintree calls itself a town yet they have a municipal charter with a mayor-council or city form of government. Braintree was settled in 1625 and incorporated in 1640. Though Quincy claims the birthplaces for President John Adams and President John Quincy Adams, they were originally considered part of Braintree until Quincy split in 1792. Along with Quincy, Randolph (1793) and Holbrook (1872) also separated from Braintree.

Braintree is known for many things but is most famous for the trial of Sacco and Vanzetti, two Italian immigrants convicted of murdering a guard and a paymaster during an armed robbery at the Slater and Morrill Shoe Factory in 1920.

Braintree has three beautiful parks and recreation sites: Blue Hills Reservation, Pond Meadow Park, and Sunset Lake. It has the largest shopping mall in the state, the South Shore Plaza with 190 specialty shops that include retail and dining services. There is plenty of retail shopping in Braintree:

Braintree is home to the national headquarters of Haemonetics and Altra Industrial Motion.

Braintree Public Schools consist of one high school, 2 middle schools, 6 elementary schools, a kindergarten center and two preschools. The town also has two private college preparatory schools, Archbishop Williams High School for grades 7-12 and Thayer Academy for grades 6-12, a catholic elementary/middle school, St. Francis of Assisi and the Meeting House Montessori School for pre-primary to 6th grade.
