Welcome to Pembroke, MA - Real Estate and More

Welcome to Pembroke, Massachusetts – Real Estate and More

Located in Plymouth County, Pembroke is a beautiful community bordered by the towns of Norwell, Marshfield, Duxbury, Kingston, Plympton, Halifax, Hanson and Hanover.

Like many of the communities surrounding Pembroke, the area was inhabited by the Wampanoag tribes until English settlers arrived in 1650. Pembroke was once part of Duxbury until it was incorporated in 1712 as a separate town. In 1820, Pembroke was further separated allowing for the Town of Hanson.

Known for its many bodies of water, including the North and Indian Head Rivers, Pembroke was entrenched in the shipbuilding industry. From 1678 to 1871, the North River had five shipyards building over 1000 vessels. Two of their famous vessels were the Brig Beaver, which had its tea dumped during the Boston Tea Party and the Maria, memorialized on the Pembroke town seal. The town is steeped in history with connections to Paul Revere and the American Revolutionary War.

The town also has 5 ponds: Oldham, Furnace, Great Sandy Bottom, Little Sandy Bottom, and Stetson; and Silver Lake. Pembroke has many opportunities for hiking, running and walking in beautiful areas. There are nine listed hiking trails that are open to the public for recreational use.

The town has an open town meeting form of government, with a five member Board of Selectmen and Town Administrator.

The town has approximately 19,563 residents. Estimated median household income is $93,671. Median home price is $385,900. For fiscal year 2017, the real estate tax rate for Pembroke is $15.10 for residential, commercial and industrial properties.

The school system is made up of 3 elementary schools which serve children kindergarten through 6th grade: Bryantville Elementary, Hobomock Elementary, and North Pembroke Elementary which includes pre-kindergarten, Pembroke Community Middle School for 7th and 8th graders and Pembroke High School for grades 9-12.
